THE SHORT-TERM PSYCHOTHERAPT OF A BORDERLINE IN-PATIENT

Abstract

|
The authors experienced the short-term psychotherapeapeutic process of a 20 years old male in-patient diagnosed as borderline personality disorder. He has been treated from April, 1988 with intermittent hospitalization and irregular out-patient psychotherapy. His initial major symptom was paranoid schizophrenia-like feature. Now, he is suffered from interpersonal difficulties, social maladaptation, unstable emotion and impulsive behaviors. This patient was managed with firm and neutral attitude in limit setting. Clarification, confrontation and interpretation within "here and now" situation were employed as major therapeutic tools. He was dischsrged after about 2 weeks hospitalization for out-patient psychotherapy. Also, the authors reviewed available literatures about borderline personality disorder.
